Purpose

Kinfolk CoLab is a community center that prioritizes people of color, and provides space for BIPOC-led groups who seek safe and affirming locations to gather and run programming. The purpose of Kinfolk CoLab is to nurture and fortify community relationships.

More about this space

Kinfolk CoLab strives to provide an intimate, intentional, pro-queer space for those who experience racial marginalization. It serves as a hub for grassroots efforts to coalesce, and as a justice incubator where groups live out their purpose and build momentum, ultimately creating their own spaces for greater impact in the future. All multi-purpose rooms are part of a communal, shared space, and the CoLab is both free to use and community funded.

 

the Team

Kinfolk CoLab is rooted in collective leadership and caring for one another, and has a leadership team consisting of our Community Coordinator who facilitates space usage and communications, and a working Board of Directors that provides guidance, direction and focus on community relationships. Each are involved with local groups such as Black Residents of Oak Park, Sage Gawd Collective, Oak Park Muslim Community, One Earth Film Festival, Race Conscious Dialogues, Workout Warriors, support for asylum seekers and more.
